The hopes for a World Cup Championship for the United States were given a huge blow today as Sweden defeated the Americans 2-1 in the final match of Group play. It was the first time that the American women had suffered a defeat in the group play round since the World Cup had started, and it couldn't have come at a worse time.
Finishing second in Group C, the Americans will now go into the quarterfinals and be matched up against a very tough Brazil team. Brazil is led by their five-time FIFA player of the year, Marta, and should be a very difficult opponent for the U.S. squad.
SI's Grant Wahl gives his analysis of the game here.
