Davis Cup Update: Roddick Loses Match, US Down 0-2 to Spain

The United States Davis Cup team put up a remarkably poor showing on Friday in Austin during the Quarterfinal tie with Spain.

Despite not bringing Rafael Nadal, the #2-ranked player in the world, Spain was able to win both of the matches today in what has to be considered upsets.

Feliciano Lopez defeated Mardy Fish 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-7, 8-6.

David Ferrer defeated Andy Roddick in straight sets 7-6, 7-5, 6-3.

It's a sad showing for the Americans, who hadn't hosted a Davis Cup match since 2009.  It's an especially sad showing for Andy Roddick, with the matches being played in his adopted hometown of Austin, Texas.

America must win the remaining three matches over the weekend to defeat Spain, who are gunning for their third Davis Cup championship in four years.

Saturday the Bryan brothers are in action against Lopez and Verdasco.
On Sunday, Fish faces Ferrer, and Roddick plays against Lopez.
All matches are being shown live on the Tennis Channel.
