In the wake of the WPS banning owner/coach Dan Borislow from the sidelines, the Magicjack were in need of a full-time coach and Wambach agreed to take on the position.
Borislow was banned in response to a grievance filed by several former and current Magicjack players that states Borislow sent several emails to players that demonstrated a bullying/intimidating manner and that he created a hostile working environment.
Borislow was coaching the team in part because the original head coach, Mike Lyons, was reassigned three games into the season. However, since Borislow doesn't have the proper qualifications to be the coach (league rules stipulate a coach must hold an "A" license), the League decided to bar him from the sidelines lest he be accused of retaliating against the players who filed the grievance.
Wambach will continue to play for Magicjack, and will most likely be assisted as needed by her teammate (and World Cup Captain) Christie Rampone. Rampone had filled in earlier in the season as temporary coach at one point.
There are seven games remaining in the WPS regular season schedule, and currently Magicjack is holding onto 4th place, which is the final playoff position.
