How's That New ESPN Quarterback Ranking System Working Out So Far?

When ESPN unveiled its new Quarterback Ranking System, called Total QBR, count me as one of the skeptics.  I'm not a fan of a statistical system where no one but the creator knows how it's really put together.

In any case, the system was created to provide a more accurate means of determining who the best quarterback really is.

So, who are the best QBs based on ESPN'S Total QBR for Weeks 1 and 2 combined?

  1. Tom Brady
  2. Ryan Fitzpatrick
  3. Matt Hasselback
  4. Tony Romo
  5. Matthew Stafford
  6. Aaron Rodgers
  7. Matt Schaub
  8. Drew Brees
  9. Jason Campbell
  10. Rex Grossman
If you go by the old Quarterback Rating system (which, by the way is still used on every NFL stat site, including ESPN's), here's the top 10:
  1. Tom Brady
  2. Aaron Rodgers
  3. Drew Brees
  4. Matthew Stafford
  5. Kevin Kolb
  6. Ryan Fitzpatrick
  7. Tony Romo
  8. Andy Dalton
  9. Matt Schaub
  10. Jason Campbell
Quite a difference, eh? I don't understand the new Total QBR system, but at least it's providing different data than the old rating system.  If it wasn't, there'd be no point to discuss it. I'll keep coming back to this as I begin to figure things out over the season.
