However, late in the first set, Nadal appeared to hurt his foot during a rally and needed a lengthy medical timeout to deal with the issue.
"I felt something that like crushed there in the back of the foot outside," Nadal said. "I seriously didn't know, at that moment (in) the match, I didn't know if I will have the chance to continue playing."During the timeout, Nadal had his foot taped but continued to show signs of pain for the rest of the set, limping at the start of each point. Once he had won that first set, he returned to the trainer's room to have the foot more heavily taped and seemed to do better with it afterwards.
Nadal stated afterwards that he was planning on getting an MRI very soon to assess the damage.
