Mardy Fish Defeats Isner For Hotlanta ATP Title

Mardy Fish overcame the extreme southern mid-summer heat and a scintillating first set from John Isner to win the Atlanta Tennis Championship in a rematch of last year's Final.

After losing the first set 3-6, Fish bounced back in the second set when it became apparent that the 6'9" Isner appeared to be suffering from the oppressive heat (90 degrees F with 50% humidity expected) that had blanketed the Atlanta area today.

Fish outlasted Isner 7-6, and then went on to easily take the third and winning set, 6-2.

This is Fish's second consecutive Atlanta Tennis Championship, and his first ATP title this year.  Currently ranked #9 in the World Singles ATP rankings, Fish most recently struggled at the Davis Cup quarterfinal tie with Spain, losing both of his singles matches.
