Several Americans Still In Hunt at The Open Championship After Day 3

With Rory McIlroy 9 strokes back at the end of play Saturday, the Open Championship in Sandwich, England, is anyone's to win.

Currently there are six Americans within 5 strokes of the leader, Darren Clarke, at -5:

  • -4 - Dustin Johnson
  • -2 - Ricky Fowler
  • -1 - Lucas Glover
  • Even - Anthony Kim, Davis Love III, Phil Mickelson
That's in contrast to the U.S. Open last month when Rory McIlroy destroyed the field, and only two Americans finished in the top 10 (Robert Garrigus and Kevin Chappell).  Garrigus missed the cut this week, and Chappell didn't play.

Americans traditionally do well at the Open Championships, with 11 winners since 1995.  Stewart Cink is the most recent American winner in 2009.
